"My higher power transcends most definitions of God. I do not limit my higher power by forcing a strict understanding. My higher power is genderless, figureless, and nameless. I feel the power and influences of my HP all around me. Especially when I’m in nature, surrounded by beauty and overwhelmed with gratitude. I was raised in a strict religion that judged others and defied reason. As a young child I knew that an all-powerful entity like my higher power would never judge or condemn another. "When I came into Al-Anon, I was here to fix my family. I was fine. By all metrics from society, I was fine. I was good. Except for on the inside. Even when I was rejecting Al-Anon its tools, and its experience, strength, and hope, it was still rubbing off on me. Teaching me love. Teaching me what healthy relationships look like, what healthy boundaries look like. Showing me the choices available to me. It has changed me. I feel the power and influences of my HP all around me. Especially when I’m in nature, surrounded by beauty and overwhelmed with gratitude.
I was raised in a strict religion that judged others and defied reason. As a young child I knew that an all-powerful entity like my higher power would never judge or condemn another. My higher power loves, respects and appreciates, and welcomes all. I know this is possible because of the unconditional love and understanding I have found in Al-Anon recovery."
